Troubleshooting

What browsers can I use to access your site?
This site works most efficiently if you are using Microsoft Internet
Explorer. This site is also fully compatible with Netscape Navigator 2.0
and higher. America Online users should upgrade to version 3.0 to minimize
conflicts. If you experience difficulty with your current browser, you may
want to download a free copy of
Microsoft Internet Exploer that will work on your computer.
What is Adobe Acrobat Reader? Why do I need it?
We use Adobe Acrobat, the new standard in paperless
publishing, to provide stock reports on the internet.
With Acrobat
Reader, you can download, view, print, and save stock
reports in
their original format (called Portable Document Format,
or PDF for
short). The Acrobat Reader software, including
instructions for installation, can be downloaded for free from the Adobe
Systems website.
Where can I find definitions for all the financial
terms used in your reports?
Many of our reports have a companion guide available free of charge. These
guides explain evaluation measures and often include a glossary of
financial terms used. After logging into our site, click on the "Order
Reports" button and then on the "Order Documents" button to see a list of
report guides.
What is Secure Sockets Encryption?
Secure Sockets Encryption, also called Secure Sockets Layer, or SSL, is a
protocol designed by Netscape Communications Corporation to provide secure
communications on the Internet. SSL is used on our site to protect credit
card transactions and password information by encrypting data. SSL is
layered beneath application protocols such as HTTP, SMTP, Telnet and FTP
and is layered above the connection protocol TCP/IP.
How secure is your site?
We provide a high level of security for our customers by using Netscape
SSL encryption to ensure a secure connection. SSL encryption is considered
by most
experts to be the best security available on the Internet. Customers need
to provide an ID number and a password to enter this site. By selecting
Secure mode before entering data such as a password or credit card number,
customers can expect complete security while using our web site. Customers
can always call our Customer Service number, 800 820-7073, if they have any
questions about web site security or would prefer to give credit card
information over the phone.
Why does my browser ask me if I want to continue or
cancel when I switch to secure mode?
Your broswer is simply alerting you that it will begin encrypting data on
the next page you visit. Click on "continue" to enter the secure area of
our web site. Your browser will also alert you when you leave our secure
area, and you should again click "continue" in order to exit our web site.
My computer won't let me use secure access. What do
I do?
Secure access is recommended for credit card transactions on the internet.
You may still take full advantage of all the services we offer in
non-secure mode, but we suggest that you call our Customer Service number,
800 820-7073, to place credit card orders.
How much does your service cost?
Reg
istration for our site is free. Registered users also have free access
to our Portolfio Manager and sample stock reports. You pay nothing unless
you want to order stock reports on companies of your choice.
How much does a report cost?
The reports are really inexpensive -- as little as $1.50. Each report has
a unit price: for example, a First Call
Earnings Estimate Report costs 1 research unit, and a Standard and Poor's Stock Report costs 2 units. We
offer three discount plans for ordering reports:
| Unit Plan | # of Units | Total Cost | Price Per
Unit | Savings |
| List Price | 1
unit | $3.00 | $3.00 | |
| Discount Plan 1 | 20
units | $40.00 | $2.00 | 30% |
| Discount Plan 2 | 100
units | $150.00 | $1.50 | 50% |
Do you offer a guarantee?
Our unit plans allow you to purchase reports for as little as $1.50 each.
All plans come with our Guarantee to Make You
Happy. If you ever ask us, we will immediately give you your
money back. Period. No 30 day limit. No letters
to write. Just let us know.
I don't have a credit card. How can I pay for a
report?
You can also pre-pay with a personal check. Please call our Customer
Service number, 800 820-7073, and ask about payment by check.
I had to download a report twice. Will I be charged
again?
No. You will not be charged if you download the same report within
5 days of placing your original order. To access a report that you have
already downloaded, you must click on the History of Orders button
after logging in. Follow the instructions on the page to view your history
of PDF files. Reports downloaded within the last 5 days will still be
available for download. Please note that anytime you place a new order
units will be deducted from your account balance.
How do I download and install Acrobat Reader?
You may download Acrobat Reader for free directly from Adobe's Download
Page. Adobe also provides instructions for installing the Acrobat
software on your computer. If you are having trouble configuring Acrobat
Reader on your computer, please visit our Feedback Page and tell us what computer you
are using, what broswer (such as Netscape, Explorer, or AOL) and the nature
of your problem, and we will be happy to respond with detailed instructions
for your particular computer and broswer.
I'm trying to register for your site, but it keeps
sending me back to the login page. Why?
Make sure you aren't double-clicking on the "register" button. All buttons
and links on the web should be single-clicked. If the problem persists,
email visit our Feedback Page and tell us
your name, e-mail address, and the login ID and password you desire. We
will register your account and respond with a confirmation via e-mail.
I registered for your site, but it won't let me log
in. What's wrong?
Please make sure you aren't double-clicking on any buttons (see above
question) and if the problem persists, please visit our Feedback Page and tell us your name, e-mail
address, and the login ID and password you are using. We will verify your
account, make any changes necessary, and respond with a confirmation via
e-mail.
I'm having trouble downloading reports. What should I
do?
Make sure you have both downloaded and installed the Acrobat Reader software. Acrobat Reader is needed for
viewing your reports. Instructions for installing the Acrobat Reader
software are included when you download the installer. If you have
installed Acrobat Reader and are still unable to download reports, please
return to our login page and try
again from the top. If the problem persists, please visit our Feedback Page and explain the problem, or
call our Customer Service number, 800 820-7073, and we'll be happy to
assist you.
I downloaded a report, but I can't find it on my
computer. Where did it go?
Your browser saves downloaded files to a specific directory or folder on
your computer. Look inside your temp directory if you are using Windows,
or inside your browser folder (such as Netscape or Explorer) if you are
using a Macintosh. Your reports are downloaded in PDF format, and have a
.pdf suffix in their filename. You can use your computer's Find File
function to search for "PDF" in order to locate your reports.
I keep getting a "server error" when I click on a
button inside your web site. What's going on?
Sometimes your browser gets "lost" while navigating through sites that
require input from the user. Because the server error is cached, you keep
getting the same error over and over again. You should login again from
our home page and try again from
the top. If the problem persists, you need to clear your disk and memory
caches before logging in again. You can clear your caches in Netscape
under "Options/Network Preferences." To clear caches in Microsoft Explorer
go to "View...Options". Click the Advanced tab. Then hit the Settings
button in the Temporary Internet Files. Last, click the Empty Folder
button.
I want to download Acrobat Reader for my Macintosh.
What's the difference between Binary and BinHex files?
The Acrobat Reader Installer (available from the Adobe Systems
website) for Macintosh can be downloaded as a Binary file or a BinHex
file. Binary and Binhex are both ways of encoding Macintosh files for
transmission over the Internet. Both file types can be decoded with
Stuffit Expander, a free utility from Aladdin Systems. Although it is a
longer file size and therefore a longer download, the BinHex file
(sometimes called an .hqx file) is more universal, and we recommend that
you chose the BinHex file type unless you are already familiar with Binary
files and how to decode them.
How can I find the ticker symbol for a Market Index?
A complete list of Market Index ticker symbols is available for free from our Newsletter Page. This site provides historical price charts on any of the listed indicies.
